To change our outcome in life, it often requires us to change our habits, in both thinking and behavior. Doing so may also require a change in “surroundings.” This isn't just a physical place like where you live or work. It may include the people you surround yourself with. We may try to avoid the truth that we will mirror those who are allowed to continually speak into our lives because it is hard to consider changing associations when they are so comfortable.
Jim Rohn takes it a step further by saying “you become the average of the 5 people closest to you.” You will either emulate those you surround yourself with, or mirror what you refuse to change. So if you want new levels of success, you need to define or possibly redefine who the "cool kids" are. This doesn't mean you have to abandon people in your life, but it may require you change or limit the interactions with people who may be holding you back from accomplishing your goals/dreams.
So challenge yourself to surround yourself with people who reflect the values, virtues and ideals you hold dear. Get in the room with people who stretch you and challenge your ways of thinking, allowing you to grow in ways you have previously only dreamed about. Partner with likeminded people who are committed to positive growth. At the same time, always leave room and an extended hand o those who want to grow and change and are looking to you to be one of their 5 people.
